Nepal officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is a landlocked independent country located in Southern Asia. Nepal is a country of heroic Gurkhas for some it is the birth place of Lord Gautama Buddha for some it is the place to touch the highest peak Mount Everest of the Earth for a few it is the place to research with various sacred practices and for some it is the country of temples and cultures. In whatever people love Nepal, it is one of the most exciting destinations for all who love travelling.

 

Geography

Nepal falls on the temperate zone north of the Tropic of Cancer with the geographical coordinates 28°00′N 84°00′E. It is located at south asia between India at west, south, east and Tibet from the north. The total land area is 147,181 sq. km including the total water covering area of 3,830 sq. km. Three main geographical regions are Terai region, mid-hill region and Himalayan region. At Himalayan region Mt Everest (8848m) is the heighest point while Kechana kalan (60 m) is the lowest poin which is in Terai.

Within Himalays lies alpine pastures and temperate forests at 4000 m and at 5500 m lies the snow line, even cold deserts that share topoghraphical characteristics with the Tibetan plateau at the inner valley are renowned Mustang and Dolpa, along with 8 of the 14 eight thousand meters mountains of the world: Sagarmatha or Mount Everest (8,848 m), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,463 m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manaslu (8,163 m) and Annapurna (8,091 m).

Nepal is second country in the world that has vast water resource. It hold the so called 'waters towers of South Asia' with its 6000 rivers which depend on the snow capped Himalayas and the monsoon rain.

 

Climate

There are five seasons in Nepal: spring, summer, monsoon, autumn and winter. As the geography of Nepal varies the climate of Nepal also varies from place to place.asdfThe summer temperatures in Terai can reach up to 37° C and in winter it ranges from 7°C to 23°C. In mil hill region summer temperature are temperate and winter temperature can drop to zero. For every 1000 m gain in altitude, counts for an average temperature drop of 6°C.

More than eighty percent of all the rainfall in Nepal is received in the monsoon ( from June till September). The average annual rainfall is 1600 mm. Pokhara receives the most rainfall (3,345mm) and below 300 mm as the lowest in Mustang.

The best season to visit or do trekking in Nepal are during spring and autumn as spring (March-June) is the time when rhododendrons blossom while in autumn ( October and November) clearest skies are found after the monsoon.

People

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics the population of Nepal was recorded to be about 26.62 million. Within which are 101 ethnic groups speaking more than 90 different languages. However, the national language of Nepal is nepali, spoken and namasteunderstood by majority of the population. English is also spoken by many Government and business offices.

Sherpas, Lopas, Baragaonlis, Manangis mainly are the people living in the northern region of the Himalayas. They are heavily influenced by the Tibetan way of living and speaking.The Middle Hills and valley People are Magars, Gurungs, Tamangs, Sunuwars, Newars, Thakalis, Chepangs, Bhramins, Chhetris and Thakuris. The Kathmandu Valley, however, has become the mixture of cultures from different places and backgrounds as it is the capital. Newari people are the real natives of the Kathmandu valley. This culture is an integration of Hinduism and Buddhism and newari people were know traders and farmers by occupation in the past.  The People living in the Terai region are mainly Tharus, Darai, Kumhal, Majhi and others. Terai people are mostly influenced by Indian way of living and speaking.

 

Wildlife

The two main categories of wildlife found in Nepal are common and protected. The common wildlife consists of common leopard, Himalayan tahr, blue sheep, spotted deer and others which are found in wild. The main three protected wildlifes are mammals, reptiles and birds.aSDTotal of 185 species of mammals is found in various parts of the country. Some of the endangered and exotic mammals are Asiatic elephant, the Royal Bengal tiger, the one-horned rhinoceros, barking deer, blackbuck, and wild buffalo called ''Arna''. The fresh river waters of Narayani and Karnali has its own variety of dolphins. The rarest of mammals are the snow leopard and red panda. Snakes such as cobras, kraits, vipers and the Indian python and two indigenous species of crocodile: the fish eating gharial and the omnivorous marsh mugger are main reptiles of Nepal. In Nepal, more than 850 species of birds are sighted and recorded. The rare red-headed trogan was sighted in the hills surrounding Kathmandu valley. In fact, more than half of all the birds found in Nepal can be sighted in the hills of Godavari, Nagarjun and Phulchwoki.
